Description
Bernarr Macfadden's early companion to Physical Culture for the ladies, Woman's Phyiscal Development was a forward thinking magazine devoted to women's exercise, physical, and mental fitness. Featuring a lovely cover of a Victorian lass at the beach and the great tagline Ugliness a Sin, Health is Beauty - this is a classic magazine and scarce as all get out, as it only ran for a few years (and switched titles to Beauty and Health) before Macfadden stopped publishing this magazine for the ladies. Printed on slick stock with photos, the mag was profusely illustrated with art nouveau header, footer, and spot illustrations, and doctors, clergy, authors, and celebrities wrote feature pieces. A unique American magazine way before its time and a testament to Macfadden's early career. Good condition considering the magazine is 120 years old. Printed on thick slick pages with nice production values, the magazine's staples are tight, and it's holding together well. Still, there are some foxing spots, small stains, tears, and the spine is split at the bottom inch and a half. A fantastic specimen, you will not see copies of this magazine come along very often and any particular issue is incredibly difficult to find. I'm not an expert grader, so please look carefully at the many quality photos and determine the grade and condition for yourself. I'm happy to answer any questions.
